Capital Electric's Lighting Technology Update Seminars are back! These popular educational seminars will focus on timely and interesting topics that are of great importance to the lighting industry. For example, we'll detail the latest advancements and changes in LED lighting - including the phase out of many traditional light sources. Next, you'll get into the act! Bring a laptop or tablet and work along with us as we do simple lighting layouts of common applications. As part of this exercise, we will detail LED vs. Traditional lighting equivalency, a challenge that has vexed installers and users since LED was introduced. We will tackle this sometimes difficult issue with techniques and tools to help you more easily and accurately select the correct LED for the application. We will also discuss emergency back-up capability in lighting installations, a topic which is often poorly understood even though it is a building code requirement for almost every structure we work on.

Traditional incandescent and fluorescent lamps are being phased out at a rapid pace. In this opening presentation, we will detail the latest regulations that are affecting your lighting options. We will also take a peek into our crystal ball to see what is on the horizon for lighting in the future. 


Simple & Effective Lighting Layouts You Can Do - A Hands-On Experience*

Since the introduction of LED as a general lighting source, all of us have struggled at one time or another, to accurately and consistently determine the correct LED source to replace a traditional light fixture. Bring your laptop or tablet and we'll do some actual layouts using software that will make it easy. As part of this exercise, we will explain terms such as Lumens, Foot Candles, Surface Reflectance, Fixture Efficiency, and Light Level Depreciation. We will also do some equivalency exercises to demonstrate why all light sources are not created (and don't perform) the same. It is one of the most misunderstood, yet critically important aspects in lighting. This presentation will help ensure you consistently do it right.

EXIT, Emergency, and Controls

When the lights go out unexpectedly in a building, we have come to expect the presence of backup and emergency lighting showing the pathway to a clear EXIT.  But something we take for granted takes some thought and planning.  LED lighting has introduced changes to the hardware and strategies employed for this important safeguard.  We will look at emergency and exit lighting in the LED age and why it’s important to understand it better.  Then we’ll shift to controls, which can greatly impact the emergency lighting.  How do lighting controls influence payback?  Can you add controls to LED fixtures previously installed?  What about codes?  We will cover this and more in this important session.
