Capital Lighting’s 2020 Lighting Summit is the lighting education event of the year and this has been a year unlike any other. The COVID-19 coronavirus has shown a spotlight on Ultraviolet “light” to combat this deadly pandemic. We will have a timely discussion of this effective technology including safety and deployment. And then, our emphasis will be on Lighting Controls. The use of controls enhances energy savings, improves performance, expands the capabilities of LED lighting, and is increasingly required by energy code. However, fear and the challenges in selecting, installing, commissioning, and using controls effectively have been a roadblock to widespread adoption. We will fight the fear starting with lighting controls basics and following into more advanced controls and applications. Our goal is to help you get comfortable with Lighting Controls. If you’ve been fearful, this is a not-to-be-missed event!
9:00 AM - 10:00 AM - THE BATTLE AGAINST COVID-19: UV “LIGHT” IN THE FIGHT
The deadly SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus pandemic has sparked renewed interest in the use of Ultraviolet (UV) radiant energy to combat viruses. We will examine UV, what it is, and how it works. We’ll detail its effectiveness as a germicide, typical applications, technologies for UV delivery, and its safe use, including risks of exposure to UV. In the age of the coronavirus, there has not been a timelier presentation.
10:10 AM - 11:30 AM - LIGHTING CONTROLS BASICS: LET’S GET STARTED
If you are among the many who think lighting controls are too complicated to use and costly to acquire, this presentation is right up your alley. The proven energy savings of LED lighting is amplified with the use of controls. Their importance is undeniable. However, widespread adoption has been slowed by fear and perceptions of complexity in specifying, installation, and use. We’ll try to take the mystery out of lighting controls by starting with the basics. Terms and definitions, types, common applications, and the impact of energy codes are among the subjects we will cover in this segment.
TOPICS COVERED INCLUDE:
• Terms and definitions
• Energy Savings potential
• Influence of Codes
• Wired vs. Wireless
• Dimming Controls for LED
• Occupancy/Vacancy sensors
• PIR or Dual Technology (Microphonic, Ultrasonic)
• Embedded Sensors
• Data Logging
• Typical/Common applications
11:30 AM - 1:00 PM - LUNCH AND VENDOR SHOW
Enjoy lunch and an expanded vendor show featuring displays and representatives from many of the key lighting manufacturers showcasing their latest products and technology in LED lighting and controls.
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM - PUTTING LIGHTING CONTROLS TO WORK: BEYOND THE BASICS
Now that you’ve decided to include controls in your LED installation, what might that mean? In this presentation we’ll get into the details on subjects that will definitely be part of our future in lighting. We will examine daylighting strategies, color temperature control, whole building integrated systems, data collection and use, and commissioning your controls for effective use and benefit. Like LED lighting itself, the main reason for using controls are the energy savings. However, they now also offer many exciting, new ways to get the best use of our working and living spaces.
TOPICS COVERED INCLUDE:
• Design Considerations
• Sensor placement and installation
• Exterior Controls
• Tunable White/Color Control
• Daylight Harvesting
• Data collection
• Whole Building Integrated Systems
• Challenges (Interoperability, Compatibility, etc.)
